President Trump in a shocking new move has dismissed Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and replaced him with CIA Director Mike Pompeo in an action that has Washington scrambling.
“Mike Pompeo, Director of the CIA, will become our new Secretary of State,” Trump wrote after reports of the news first broke.
“He will do a fantastic job! Thank you to Rex Tillerson for his service! Gina Haspel will become the new Director of the CIA, and the first woman so chosen. Congratulations to all!”

The news was first confirmed by The Washington Post.
Tillerson and Trump have had a strained relationship, so it comes as no surprise that Tillerson would be removed.
However, the timing of Tillerson’s dismissal remains a shock given the high level diplomatic work currently at hand.
Trump this Thursday stunned the world by graciously accepting an invitation to meet in person with North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un, marking him the first U.S. president to ever meet with a North Korea leader.
Trump and Tillerson had often clashed, most notably after the secretary of State allegedly referred to Trump in private as a “moron.”
The revelation deeply affected Trump, leading the president to challenge his secretary of State to an IQ test.
There were also many differences of opinion between the two, including on Monday, when Tillerson pointed the finger at Moscow over the murder of a double agent and his daughter in London. The White House earlier in the day refused to blame Russia for the incident, despite claims from Great Britain’s prime minister.
Late last year, rumors engulfed Washington suggesting that Tillerson would be replaced, and reports also circulated that Pompeo would be his replacement.
